2024 Bingo Card Revisited

    I looked back at my bingo card in September and thought I would give an update.  And then I had a blistering gallop of visiting friends, family, and general touristing for the next two months and suddenly it is November.  Oops.  So now I am finally going to reassess my goals, though I am in the last stretch of 2024 at this point.

    I haven't gotten myself into a regular drawing habit, but now that I live in a creative house with around 20 people maybe I will have gain some habit-building-buddies.  
    Tarot and introspection has also been tabled (in the American "put away" meaning of the term, not the "on the agenda to deal with now" Kiwi meaning).  
    I haven't blogged with regularity latrly (ulp, hardly) but it has not been an abandoned project either.  
    Swimming has been intimidating after my sleepy lil Chicago gym.  People here are serious swimmers and I feel a little like a dog-paddle kiddie when I'm in the lap lanes.

    As for 12 creative projects I feel like this is a tough one to gather into one pile, but probably worthwhile to run through the things I've worked on in 2024, even if I haven't finished all of them.

I'm going to have to scroll back through my notes app and flip through pages of my journal to see if I'm missing anything.  This is a good excuse to declare some things finished, or finished enough for general sharing.

    What a great Bingo Life Card! You've completed so much! I'm afraid mine looks more sparse this year, but I agree, perhaps I need to look over my journal also and see what I've actually done.

    My coworker recently described this time of year as the FF-fast forward time of year. All the holidays and shorter daylight hours make the days seem to whip by. I'm so glad your days are sunshiny and warm just now. Soak in a little warmth for me. Oh and eat a pie. And say, kia ora! to someone for me. <3

Lake Tekapo

Tekapo is a little town in Mackenzie County which is named after that folk hero sheep rustler I wrote about in my Kentucky blog, who stole hundreds of sheep with the help of his trusty dog Friday.  The people of Tekapo erected a monument in 1968 in honor of the sheepdog beside the lake, in homage to the hard working animals who made alpine sheep farming possible.   T he brass plaque attached to the statue ends with "Beannachdan air na cu caorach" which apparently means “Blessings on the sheep dog.”        Tekapo is the east lake, Pukaki lies to the west, sister alpine lakes. Both are bounded by moraines, a scoop made in the earth with a natural dam of rock and debris etched out by a glacier sometime around 12,000 years ago. Pretty young, geologically speaking.   Lake Tekapo is 120 meters deep, twice the depth of Lake Michigan. Straight stats (j/k there were barely any straight books on this list)  Total (physical) books: 20  Total audiobooks: 135  Total graphic novels: 10  Total picture books: 3  Altogether now: 168  Hours listened: 1,375 aka 57 days (try that 1.25 speed, you might like it)  Pages read: 7,483  Biggest reading month: March, with 19 books.  Tied for least reading, July and October. July was too hot, and October I had just started a new job.  Big Genres: Mystery (47), Horror (25), Nonfiction (17), LGBTQ (11), Thriller (10) Horror with a bullet, since 13 out of my 23 5-star books (and my fiction honorable mention!) are all horror.  Even though they led with pure numbers only 4 mystery books ended up with 5 star from me, and three were from the same series.  I absolutely love the Karma series by Jonathan Ames, A Man Named Doll, Wheel of Doll, and Karma Doll . Ukulele Goals for 2025

I have been playing more music this year, in fits and starts that leave my fingerpads raw and doesn't seem to bother the neighborhood dogs overmuch. It's a good sign when you get your own song stuck in your head, right?  There's one that pops up in my head any time I hear a particular chord progression, and then lives there for the rest of the week.  This is one of the rare songs where I made up words to someone else's melody.  Shout out to Jason Dudgeon, back in Louisville, KY.   Little Heart - music and mixing by Jason Dudgeon , words by me. I have compiled a list of all the songs I've written that feel "done enough", with both chorus and verse, some of them even get fancy and have a bridge.   Maybe, maybe, maybe I will get into the mode of recording some of these and sharing them with a broader audience this year.  In the meantime, I am practicing getting over my fear of singing in front of people by singing in front of the ocean.   I...
